OUR ANCESTORS FOUGHT

FOR POSSIBILITY.

NOW WE’RE BUILDING ON IT.

BLACK VOICES BELONG AT THE CENTER

We are at a pivotal time in history where we have an opportunity to decide what country we want to be. As attacks on Black communities by the federal government continue to intensify, we are once again reminded that silence has never protected us.

For generations, Black people have been spoken about, legislated against, and left out of decisions that shape our lives. Yet we have always found ways to organize, resist, and imagine something greater.

Today, we are seeing at the root that our country is anti-Black. If the next 250 years are going to look different from the last, we cannot continue building a future without the people who have long been excluded from shaping it. With the Black Census Project — the largest anonymous survey of Black people in America — 300,000 Black people have the opportunity to resist, dream, and define the future of this nation. Take the Black Census now as your voice is needed in this moment to build what’s next.

All responses are kept fully anonymous, securely owned by Black Futures Lab, and never shared individually. Together, this information will help us cast a vision that advances our collective work to build lasting power for Black communities in this country.

Black people have always played a role in unlocking the promise of an America that has not yet been realized, and if there was ever a time to tap into that power—it’s now.

This is how we turn pain into dreams, dreams into demands, demands into policy, and policy into power. We can cast a vision for the future of this country and build it.

Kristin Powell

Executive Director, Black Futures Lab

Taking the Black Census is a powerful act of resistance and a way to make our demands visible. When power tries to erase us, we organize, we resist, and we make ourselves impossible to ignore.
